DISPLAY
The Zenfone 3 Max carries a 5.2-inch screen size with an IPS display while the J5 Prime has a 5-inch with a TFT one. In terms of viewing experience, the former has the upper hand with its larger screen size and better display type. IPS LCD displays are basically the upgrade of TFT displays which provide better color accuracy and viewing angles.
CPU AND GPU
The Zenfone 3 Max is equipped with a MediaTek MT6737T processor paired with a Mali-T720 GPU while the J5 Prime has an Exynos 7570 processor with the same GPU. Looking at the benchmarks, the former shows faster and better CPU performance. In terms of gaming capabilities, do not expect much since their GPU is only for entry-level smartphones, though it can run light-to-moderate graphics games with no problems. As for heavy graphics games, expect that it will only have low fps even if graphical settings are adjusted.
CAMERA
Both smartphones have the same rear and front camera resolutions. We may not have put the devices side-by-side for a comparison, but we have taken sample shots from each which you can view here. (ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 5.2 and Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime)
BATTERY
The Zenfone Max series has been known for its large battery capacities and for that, we are impressed with the Zenfone 3 Max’s 4,100mAh battery. However, we were surprised that upon testing its battery life, it only yielded 12 hours and 30 minutes while the J5 Prime with only 2,400mAh battery lasted for 13 hours in our video loop test.
PRICE
The ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 5.2 is priced at Php7,995 (see price listing here) while the Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is priced at Php8,490 (see price listing here).
We would go with the Zenfone 3 Max 5.2 in this match due to its better viewing experience, large internal storage and RAM, and a faster performance speed.
