DISPLAY
Both smartphones sport the same screen size and resolution, but different display types. The J7+ has the Super AMOLED display while the XA1 Plus has an IPS LCD. Both displays are good to the eye and produce a decent quality of the display, however, the Super AMOLED’s advantage is that it has a richer contrast while the IPS LCD gives off more natural colors. They both have disadvantages as the Super AMOLED has a risk of burn-in while the IPS draws more power from the smartphone.
CPU AND GPU
Both devices carry a MediaTek Helio P20 processor with a Mali-T880 GPU. Their processor is decent enough to do daily tasks and multitasking with ease and their GPU can run low-to-moderate graphics games smoothly. One thing to note is our benchmark scores for both smartphones as the XA1 Plus scored better but not by a mile.
CAMERA
Both smartphones give good image qualities based on our reviews. The Samsung Galaxy J7+ has a 13MP + 5MP dual camera setup, but it focuses more on its 16MP front camera resolution which makes it a candidate for a selfie smartphone. The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus, on the other hand, has a whopping 23MP rear camera while the front only has 8MP, both with wide-angle lenses.
BATTERY
The J7+ carries a 3,000mAh battery while the XA1 Plus has 3,430mAh. Testing them out in our video loop test gave us clear results on which one has a longer lasting battery life. The former only got 12 hours and 35 minutes while the latter lasted for 15 hours and 27 minutes, making the XA1 Plus the clear winner.
OTHER FEATURES
The J7+ has a Samsung Bixby Assistant, a facial recognition technology, and a Gyroscope sensor while the XA1 Plus has a dedicated microSD card slot, USB Type-C port, ClearAudio+ technology, NFC, and Fast Charging tech with Qnovo Adaptive Charging. Both have merits but the advantage depends on the user. That said, it’s better to pick the one with features that will cater to your needs.
PRICE
The Samsung Galaxy J7+ is priced at Php19,990 while the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus is priced at Php16,990. If you have a limited budget, the XA1 Plus is the more attractive option.
