DISPLAY
Let’s check their displays out. The J7+ has a standard setup in which most mid-rangers are following these days which is a 5.5-inch display paired with a Full HD resolution. On the other hand, the A7 2017 has a 5.7-inch display with the same Full HD resolution. For users who are fond of watching videos, the latter is the better pick since it gives a better viewing experience due to its larger screen size.
CPU AND GPU
Moving on to the CPU and GPU, the J7+ carries a Helio P20 processor with a Mali-T880 GPU while the A7 2017 is equipped with an Exynos 7880 processor and a Mali-T830 GPU. The processors of both smartphones have a close performance but the former exceeded the latter by a little bit. As for their gaming capabilities, the Mali-T880 GPU is better than the Mali-T830 which makes the J7+ better at playing games.
Note that we do not have a review for the A7 2017 to test it out but, base on our reviews on smartphones with a Mali-T830, we have found out that the Mali-T880 is indeed the better performing GPU.
CAMERA
In the camera department, the J7+ has a different setup compared to the A7 2017. It has dual rear cameras but its resolution is lower than the main lens of the A7 2017. Its front camera is also equipped with a LED flash while the latter does not have any. We have taken sample shots from both smartphones in which you can find here — Samsung Galaxy J7+ and Samsung Galaxy A7 2017. The images that were produced from both smartphones are decent which is why users who like to take pictures can choose any of these smartphones for taking photos.
BATTERY
As for battery capacity, the J7+ only has 3,000mAh while the A7 2017 has 3,600mAh. Looking at the specs, it is apparent that the latter will most likely have the longer battery life since it has a larger battery capacity. We cannot confirm it, however, since we haven’t tested the A7 2017′ battery life yet. The J7+, on the other hand, lasted for 12 Hours and 35 Minutes on our video loop test. This could give users an idea of how long the other smartphone might last.
OVERALL PERFORMANCE
In terms of overall performance, the J7+ has a faster performance than the A7 2017. For gaming performance, the winner still goes to the said smartphone since it has a better performing GPU. As for viewing experience, the A7 2017 definitely has the upper hand between the two.
OTHER FEATURES
Let’s discuss some unique features from the A7 2017 that the J7+ does not have. It has an IP68 water and dust resistance which is always good for users who are always on the road or have “accidental” hands. Another plus for this smartphone is that it has a fast charging technology. Heavy users will always want to have this kind of technology on their smartphones.
For the J7+, It has the Bixby assistant which is exclusive for Samsung smartphones and was first implemented to the company’s flagship smartphones — the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note8. Another thing to note is that it has a facial recognition scanner which is a starting trend nowadays in the mid-range market.
PRICE
The Samsung Galaxy J7+ is priced at Php19,990 while the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 is priced at Php20,990. (see price listing here)
