A reader asks, “Which is better: Huawei Y7 Prime or OPPO A83?”
Two smartphones with the same price will be put side-by-side to see which one has the better specs. Let’s start!

Table of Contents
The A83 has a larger screen size, aspect ratio, and horizontal screen resolution. The Y7 Prime carries the 5.5-inch screen size trend of smartphones in the past years which is not bad but, in terms of viewing experience, users may find it more comfortable to watch videos on the former.
CPU AND GPU
The A83 carries a Helio P23 processor while the Y7 Prime has the Snapdragon 435. We haven’t tested out the latter’s benchmark score in AnTuTu, but we have data on the processor. Upon checking the benchmark scores, the A83 yielded a higher score than the Y7 Prime by a significant amount. This means that the former has a better performing CPU.
In terms of gaming potential, the Adreno 505 of the Y7 Prime can run low-to-mid graphics games with ease. The Mali-G71 MP2 of the A83 on the other hand, can run up to heavy-graphics games easily, but users should not expect much because framerates will only be tolerable at best (at most 40fps).
On paper, the A83 has a slightly higher rear camera resolution while the front camera has a screen flash. It also has the AI beautification technology of the OPPO F5 that further enhances a user’s selfie experience. We have not tested the camera capabilities of the Y7 Prime so we cannot say which is the better pick for this aspect. You check out our sample shots taken with the A83 for yourself, here.
On paper, the Y7 Prime has a larger battery capacity, but it does not mean that it automatically has a longer battery life. It will depend on many factors such as the display, chipset architecture, and OS.
The Huawei Y7 Prime is priced at Php9,990 (see price listing here). The OPPO A83 has the same price.
Between the two smartphones, the OPPO A83 is the better choice in terms of viewing experience, better and faster CPU performance, and gaming experience.
