+ Better performing CPU

+ Dual-LED rear flash

Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime

Both smartphones have the same display specs except for one. The IPS LCD of the Y5 2017 is an upgraded TFT display type of the J5 Prime. In terms of viewing experience, they are both decent but the IPS LCD gives more color accuracy and better viewing angles. If the user is fond of watching videos, Y5 2017 is the better pick in this aspect.

The CPU of both smartphones are different. The Y5 2017 has a MediaTek MT6737T while the J5 Prime has an Exynos 7570. Upon testing them in Antutu benchmark, the scores showed that the former has a better performing CPU. In terms of gaming potential, they both have Mali-T720 which is an entry-level GPU. Both smartphones can run light-graphics games easily

On paper, the J5 Prime has a higher rear camera resolution. An advantage for the Y5 2017 is that it has a dual-LED flash and a front flash which is always useful for selfies under low-light conditions. The latter may have a smaller battery capacity, but during our video loop test, it yielded a solid 13 hours of battery life while the former has been tested in PCMark’s Battery benchmark and yielded 9 hours and 25 minutes battery life. It also has been observed that the PCMark battery test yields lower battery life and when tested with the J5 Prime, the benchmark crashes.
