gr5 2017 vs j7pro | Huawei GR5 2017 or Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro?

This match is a very close fight between two mid-range smartphones. We actually had a rough time deciding which is better but without further ado, let’s start this battle.

The Huawei GR5 2017 is the improved version of the Huawei GR5 2016. It has a 5.5 IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 32GB internal storage, Dual rear cameras (12MP/2MP), an 8MP wide-angle front camera, and a 3,340mAh battery to power up the smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro is an upgrade from last year’s J7 Pro (2016). This smartphone has a 5.5 Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 32GB internal storage, a 13MP f/1.7 rear AF camera with LED flash, a 13MP f/1.9 front camera with LED flash, and a 3600mAh powering up the smartphone.

Now, for the advantages of each smartphone:

Huawei GR5 2017

+ A bit better CPU performance

+ Dual rear cameras

Samsung GAlaxy J7 Pro

+ Better front camera quality

+ A bit longer battery life

+ Android 7.0 out of the box

As you may have noticed, both smartphones are almost identical in terms of performance. In our video review for Huawei GR5 2017, the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is lacking but the 2MP lens dedicated for depth of field makes up for it. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro, however, has a better front camera quality with 13-megapixels.

If we look at the displays, the GR5 2017 has an IPS panel which gives off a more natural color while the J7 Pro has a Super AMOLED display which gives a better color accuracy and saturation but has a risk of “burn in”. When two different smartphones have an almost the same performance and specifications, we will resort looking at their prices. GR5 2017 sells at Php11,990 while the J7 Pro sells at Php15,990. Basing from the prices of both smartphones, the Huawei GR5 2017  wins this match because it is cheaper than J7 Pro assuming that they have an almost identical performance.
