Getting last year’s flagship or this year’s upper midrange device is a hard choice, as a lot of features have trickled down to the newer device. To help you decide, we’ve made a quick comparison of the devices’ display, performance, camera, features, and battery.

Display

Both devices sport Samsung’s Super AMOLED panel, but the Galaxy A71 sports a larger, albeit lower resolution 6.7-inch display at Full HD+. Meanwhile, the S10+ sports a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ display with HDR10+ support. While both devices do have a great display thanks to the Super AMOLED panel, the S10+’s display is noticeably sharper with its larger resolution. It does, however, have a smaller display, so keep that in mind.

Performance

The Galaxy A71 is equipped with a Snapdragon 730G chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Galaxy S10+, on the other hand, is equipped with an Exynos 9820 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The Galaxy S10+ outperforms the Galaxy A71 in all aspects with its flagship chipset. In terms of daily usage, however, the Galaxy A71 still performs well, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find any differences in light workloads.

Camera

The two devices have different cameras, with the Galaxy A71 sporting a quad rear set up consisting of a 64MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, 5MP depth, and 5MP macro. The Galaxy S10+, on the other hand, comes with a triple rear camera set up consisting of a 12MP main, 16MP ultra-wide, and 12MP telephoto camera capable of 2x optical zoom.

Both devices do come with capable cameras, and as per usual, the MP count is not the be-all-end-all of cameras. Check out our sample photos of the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy S10+ and compare the images yourself to see which devices capture better photos.

Features

In terms of features, the A71 can’t compete with the flagship S10+. It has better protection with Corning Gorilla 6, IP68 water resistance, and Knox security. It also has a faster USB 3.1 connectivity as well.

Battery

The Galaxy A71 comes with a larger 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast-charging support. The Galaxy S10+ comes with a smaller 4,100mAh battery with support for 15W fast-charging, 15W wireless charging, and 9W reverse wireless charging. While the Galaxy A71 does come with a bigger battery and faster-wired charging, the Galaxy S10+ does come with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a flagship device – including wireless and reverse charging.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is the better device. The most important consideration should be the price. The Galaxy S10+ costs more than twice as much as the Galaxy A71, at PHP 47,990 after the recent price drops, while the Galaxy A71 only costs PHP 22,990. If you’re looking to get the better device, then the S10+ is the way to go. Value-wise, however, the Galaxy A71 does offer almost the same functionalities if wireless charging and better protection is not a concern to you.
